The 2019 Toyota Avalon XLE is part of a fuel pump recall for 1.8 million vehicles.
Toyota expanded an existing recall by 1.2 million vehicles for a problem with fuel pump failures, which could lead the vehicle’s engine to stall.
The action grows the total number of affected vehicles to more than 1.8 million after the company’s initial recall of nearly 700,000 vehicles in January. The recall hasn’t been tied to any injuries at this point, Toyota noted.
The vehicles in the recall include Toyota trucks, SUVs, minivans and cars across the model lineups of Toyota and its Lexus luxury vehicle brand. The engine stalls potentially increase the risk of a crash, although Toyota hasn’t revealed if there have been any tied to the problem.

The company says owners of vehicles not involved in the January recall will be notified in early May about when to make a service appointment. Dealers will replace the fuel pump with a new and improved one.
The 2018 and 2019 Tacoma are also part of the fuel pump recall.
Models now included in the recall are certain 2018 and 2019 Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Sequoia, Tacoma and Tundra vehicles, as well as the 2018 and 2019 Lexus ES 350, GS 350, IS 300, IS 350, LC 500, LC 500h, LS 500, LS 500h, RC 300, RC 350, RX 350L.
Also covered are the 2013-2015 Lexus LS 460, the 2013-2014 Lexus GS 350, the 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser and Lexus IS-F, the 2014-2015 Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser and Lexus GX 460, IS 350 and LX 570.
Other vehicles include the 2015 Lexus NX 200t and RC 350, the 2017 Lexus IS 200t and RC 200t, the 2017-2019 Toyota Sienna and Lexus RX 350, and the 2018 Lexus GS 300.

The recall is the second large one for Toyota this year. In January, Toyota agreed to fix 3.4 million vehicles around the world with ZF airbags that may not inflate due to the problem. The problem is part of a larger issue that could result in a recall of 12.3 million vehicles from six automakers in the U.S. The problems may be responsible for eight deaths in the U.S.
The 2015 Lexus NX 200t is part of the recall of 1.8 million vehicles.
Toyota’s recall centers on a faulty computer that may not have adequate protection against electrical noise that can happen in crashes. The problem can cause incomplete opening of the air bags, or they may not open at all. Devices that prepare seat belts for a collision also may not work.
In most cases Toyota dealers will install a noise filter between the air bag control computer and a wiring harness. But in some vehicles, dealers will inspect the computer to determine if it needs the filter. Owners will be notified by mid-March.
The recall covers certain 2011-2019 Corollas, the 2011 to 2013 Matrix, the 2012 through 2018 Avalon and the 2013 to 2018 Avalon Hybrid in the U.S.

Toyota wouldn’t say if it will offer loaner cars to people who fear their air bags might not protect them. A spokeswoman suggested that owners call its customer hotline to discuss their issue at (800) 333-4331.
