Porsche Protection Plan Review

Porsche Vehicle Service Protection (VSP) is a service contract sold through authorized Porsche dealers. It covers repairs (parts and labor) for up to 10 years/100,000 miles from the in-service date.

Under this coverage, you will have to only pay the deductible: $100 or $250. The $250 deductible option comes with a lower upfront payment. If you have the $100 deductible and choose to have the repairs done at the selling dealer, the deductible will be waived.

You can buy the Porsche VSP for new, pre-owned, and certified pre-owned Porsches at the time of buying or leasing the vehicle. You can also buy the plan if your car is still under the original warranty. The plans are accepted at all participating Porsche dealers and some authorized repair centers. If you decide to sell your car, you can transfer the Porsche Protection Plan to the new owner for a $50 fee.

What Does the Porsche Extended Warranty Cover?

There are two types of Porsche extended warranty plans: Platinum and Powertrain.

Plan Name Covered Parts
Platinum Engine, transmission, drive axle, seals and gaskets, climate control, shocks, suspension, fuel system, electrical system, steering, brakes, navigation, audio/high-tech components
Powertrain Engine, transmission, drive axle, seals and gaskets

All repairs will be done using new or remanufactured genuine Porsche parts or Porsche-approved parts.

Just like the factory warranty, the Porsche VSP will not cover mechanical breakdowns caused by improper maintenance or damage due to accidents or vandalism. Refer to your contract for the complete list of exclusions.

Additional Benefits

Porsche extended warranties come with the following additional perks:

  • 24/7 emergency roadside assistance
  • Rental car reimbursement up to $50 per day for a maximum of 10 days
  • Towing reimbursement up to $250
  • Trip interruption benefits up to $200 per day for a maximum of five days

Other Porsche Protection Plans

In addition to vehicle service protection plans, Porsche also offers other protection packages like the following:

  • Premier tire and wheel protection: Repair and replacement coverage for tires and wheels from road hazards
  • Dent protection: Removes dents and dings without repainting
  • Key protection: Replaces lost, damaged or stolen keys
  • Windshield protection: Covers unlimited repairs and one replacement of the front windshield during the term of the contract
  • Guaranteed asset protection (GAP): Covers the difference between your car’s assessed value and the balance amount left on your auto loan in the event of a total loss
  • Lease end protection: Pays for up to $7,500 for covered excess wear-and-tear charges with zero deductible
  • Multi-Coverage Protection Packages: Bundles optional Porsche Protection Plans in three packages: Silver, Gold and Platinum

Some of these optional coverage plans may not be available in every state. Call your local dealer for more information.

What are the Benefits of a Porsche Extended Warranty?

Porsche builds some of the most dependable and reliable cars on the road today, but that doesn’t completely take away the possibility that your Porsche will need a repair.

Being a luxury brand, Porsche cars are expensive – and so are the repairs. For example, without a Porsche Macan extended warranty, the average cost of an engine oil pan replacement would range from $3,792 to $4,310, as reported on RepairPal.

Porsche’s warranty doesn’t last forever. The manufacturer’s obligations to pay for repairs end when the New Car Limited Warranty expires at 4 years/50,000 miles. If you drive a lot, you may reach the 50,000 mileage limit even before the four years are up. Any repairs after that will fall on your shoulders, which is why it’s worth considering a Porsche extended warranty. In some cases, you could recover its cost in a single repair.

A Porsche extended warranty offers a smart way to continue caring for your car and ensure peace of mind on the road. You can buy an extended warranty or a service contract from a Porsche dealer or a third-party company.

Porsche Extended Warranties vs. Third-Party Warranties

While Porsche extended warranties offer a lot of protection, you can’t overlook the advantages of a third-party warranty.

Coverage Options

An extended car warranty from companies like CARCHEX and Endurance gives you more coverage options, which increases your chances of finding a plan that fits both your vehicle and budget.

While Porsche has two coverage levels, both CARCHEX and Endurance offer five coverage tiers with several plans in each tier. This can be a huge advantage for people who want more coverage than Porsche’s Powertrain plan but not as comprehensive of coverage as the Platinum option.

Also, when it comes to coverage terms, a Porsche extended warranty from the dealer will only offer you coverage up to 10 years/100,000 miles. You can get extended warranties for cars over 100,000 miles from third-party providers.

Cost

Our research indicates that Porsche VSPs cost around $4,000 to $6,600 on average. The final Porsche Protection Plan cost may be marked up since it’s being sold by the dealership, too. In comparison, third-party extended warranties generally have a little more wiggle room to be customized to your budget. Most providers also offer a $0 deductible.

Flexible Payment Options

Buying a Porsche extended warranty when you purchase your new car gives you the option of rolling the cost into your auto loan. While this is certainly convenient, it will increase your final cost since you’ll pay interest.

If you get Porsche coverage from a third-party provider, you can pay for your plan upfront or in easy, low monthly installments over a fixed period with no interest. CarShield even has month-to-month contracts, if you want the extra flexibility.

Buy Coverage Anytime

You can buy a Porsche VSP only while the original warranty is still in effect. Third-party extended warranties can be purchased at almost any time for most cars. This makes them a great option if you buy a used Porsche.

What is Porsche’s Factory Warranty?

The Porsche factory warranty is on par with that of other luxury brands and offers coverage from the minute you drive your car off the lot. However, its powertrain coverage is the same as the New Car Limited Warranty and does not extend beyond those terms.

Here is a quick breakdown of what coverage you get with a new Porsche.

Porsche Warranty Coverage Term
New Car Limited Warranty 4 years/50,000 miles
Replacement Parts and Accessories 2 years/unlimited miles
Federal Emissions Warranty 2 years/24,000 miles or 8 years/80,000 miles
California Emissions Warranty 7 years/70,000 miles
Corrosion Perforation Limited Warranty 12 years/unlimited mileage
High-Voltage Battery (hybrid vehicles only) 8 years/100,000 miles
Roadside assistance 4 years/50,000 miles

4 Things to Know About Porsche’s Warranty

  1. The Porsche New Car Limited Warranty covers the repairs for your vehicle, including labor and parts, if they fail to function as designed during normal use. This is an exclusionary coverage, or bumper-to-bumper coverage, which provides protection for all car systems unless explicitly listed in the warranty.
  2. Porsche strongly recommends using parts supplied by Porsche Cars North America (PCNA). If you have used replacement car parts not supplied by PCNA and an authorized Porsche representative has determined that the part is defective or not up to quality, your warranty claim or some or all of your New Car Limited Warranty may be voided.
  3. 24-Hour Porsche Roadside Assistance, which runs for the duration of the New Car Limited Warranty, includes services like emergency towing, battery jump-starts, fuel delivery, flat tire assistance, trip interruption and extrication/winch services.
  4. The Porsche warranty is transferable to subsequent owners.

Porsche Warranty Exclusions

Like most factory warranties, new Porsche coverage has some exclusions and will not cover parts that fail due to lack of maintenance, normal wear and tear, tires damaged by road hazards, premature wear of tires, damage caused by vandalism or an accident, unauthorized modifications and external cosmetic damage. Refer to your owner’s manual for a complete list.

Porsche CPO Warranty

When you buy a certified pre-owned (CPO) Porsche, the original New Car Limited Warranty is extended by two years. What’s especially good about the Porsche CPO warranty is that you get two years of protection even if the original warranty has expired.

Porsche is also generous with CPO eligibility. Any model year Porsche is eligible up to the past 13 model years (including the current model year), as long it has less than 124,000 miles.
