Mercedes unveiled its new GLC63 S Coupe at the NYIAS. The AMG-tuned model sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Sport utility vehicles now account for more than 30% of the vehicles sold by Mercedes-Benz worldwide and the German luxury car brand is preparing to expand its SUV offerings with a pair of unique vehicles from its AMG performance brand.

Brita Seeger, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars sales and marketing, noted during a presentation at the New York International Auto Show that during the past four years Mercedes-Benz had completely renewed C-, E- and S-Class lines “with amazing new design and technology.

Mercedes-Benz has also renewed its SUV portfolio, which has helped boost Mercedes to four consecutive years of stronger sales.

“We continue to expect sales growth thanks especially to our SUV gamily and of course our ne E-Class family, the most comprehensive line-up you will find in this segment,” she added.

Seeger said the GLC63 SUV, GLC63 Coupe and GLC63 S Coupe, boasting unique styling, are the only models powered by an 8-cylinder biturbo engine with acceleration and top speed that are suited both for the race track and if the consumer desires are also perfectly suitable to serve as an everyday car for someone with a family.

The new models feature the AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine produces 469 horsepower in the GLC63 SUV and GLC63 Coupe and a mighty 503 hp in the GLC63 S Coupe. In case you’re curious, that translates to 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds for the SUV and coupe, while the S Coupe is slightly better at 3.7 seconds.

“They can rely on high driving stability and handling safety under all conditions that is why we offer the latest chassis technology, including our fully variable AMG Performance all-wheel-drive,” she said.

The new GLC 63 AMG vehicles are cars for people who like their individual style. The new SUVs from AMG will hold special position in their market segment.

“Our new high-performance GLCs are symbols for the general development at Mercedes,” she added. “If you’re like me and just love sporty cars but also want great everyday stability these are your rides.”

These three new performance models feature an air spring suspension with adaptive, adjustable damping, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution, a rear-axle limited-slip differential and a high-performance braking system.

“With Mercedes-Benz, we’re now looking back on over four years of continuous growth with a sales increase of 16%, the first quarter of this year was the strongest ever and we are very confident for the remainder of the year,” she added.
