The 2018 Dodge Challenger with Shakedown Package and old-is-new Plum Crazy paint.

The Dodge brand is continuing its push to dominate the classic muscle car segment with the launch of its new Shakedown Package.

Inspired by the old-is-new 1971 Dodge Shakedown Challenger concept that was revealed at the 2016 SEMA show, it adds a range of customized features, from paint colors like Plum Crazy to a new Alpine audio system, but it’s specifically designed for the three current shaker versions of the Dodge Challenger.

“Dodge//SRT has a rich history of using iconic heritage and high-impact colors and unique graphics to make our vehicles look custom, straight from the factory,” said Steve Beahm, Head of Passenger Car Brands, Dodge//SRT, Chrysler and Fiat – FCA North America. “These paint colors and unique Shaker stripes stand out in the crowd and speak to our customers’ passion for their cars and their love of the Dodge and SRT brands.”

The Shakedown Package will be offered on three Challenger models:

  • The Challenger R/T Shaker and R/T Plus Shaker, both powered by a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 making 375 horsepower and paired to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic; and
  • The Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker, which gets the naturally aspirated 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 making 485 horsepower. It shares the same transmission options.

The Shakedown Package was inspired by the 1971 Challenger Concept shown at the 2016 SEMA.

The $995 Shakedown Package adds white-face gauges on the instrument cluster and asymmetrical black racing exterior stripes lifted from the 1971 Dodge Shakedown Challenger Concept car. It also brings back the B5 Blue and Plum Crazy paint colors first introduced nearly 50 years ago on the original Dodge Challenger.

As for the audio upgrade, the Challenger R/T Shaker gets a 275-watt Alpine system driving six speakers. The R/T Shaker Plus and 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker get 9-speakers driven by a 506-watt Alpine system.
