VW's latest concept, the I.D. Roomzz, will ultimately become a China-only product to start in 2021.
Volkswagen AG is pushing to make good on its pledge to have 50 all-electric vehicles on the road by 2023 with the introduction of a new all-electric ID concept vehicle to its portfolio, the ID Roomzz, at AutoShanghai.
The full-size all-electric SUV follows in the footsteps of the ID Crozz, and has an estimated production launch in 2021 for the Chinese market.
The new model is part of the German automaker’s effort to get those EVs ready for rollouts starting next year based on its new MEB platform that will launch their new all-electric vehicle effort by the end of the year.
It joins a slew of other vehicles from the German automaker that have been catching a few zz’s: I.D. Crozz, I.D. Buzz and I.D. Vizzion. The company also showed off the I.D. Buggy, modeled of popular Mayer-style beach buggies popular in the 1960s and ‘70s.

“This SUV is a monolith, appearing to be seamlessly machined from one solid block,” Klaus Bischoff, chief designer at the Volkswagen brand, commented on the new electric SUV. “The battery-powered I.D. Roomzz moves effortlessly – silently and without emissions.”
VW is equipping the I.D. Roomzz with a 82-kWh battery for “a range of up to 450 km (WLTP) or 475 km (NEDC, China),” according to Electrek. Officials claim that the battery supports 150 kW charging for an 80% charge in about half an hour.

The battery pack feeds two electric motors located on each axle with “a system output of 225 KW / 306 PS (electric 4MOTION).” With those two motors, the I.D. Roomzz can sprint from zero to 100 in just 6.6 seconds, reaching top speeds of up to 180 km/h (electronically regulated).”
VW says that the vehicle will be equipped with its latest self-driving technology. This makes sense since in autonomous mode, the seats can recline and swivel to facilitate conversations amongst passengers.

Volkswagen says that a “series version” of the I.D. Roomzz will be launched in two years, Electrek reported, and it will “initially” be for the Chinese market.
