Mitsubishi Motors announced the Mi-Tech Concept small electrified sport-utility vehicle ahead of the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Mitsubishi Motors is looking to make a big impact at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show with the introduction of a new crossover concept as well as a special wagon concept, releasing teaser photos of the two vehicles.
The Japanese automaker reports the Mi-Tech Concept electrified crossover vehicle is a plug-in hybrid with four-motor, electric four-wheel drive. The system is a series hybrid setup with a gasoline turbine engine powering four electric motors, two on the front axle and two on the rear.
“This provides the driver to use pure-electric driving mode and series hybrid modes and delivers the smooth and powerful performance characteristics inherent to electrified vehicles,” the automaker said.

The rendering of the vehicle released by the automaker shows a compact, coupe-style open-top crossover. Oversized fenders give it a personality bigger than its actual size, given it’s described as a “small electrified SUV,” which suggests it’s designed to be at home in urban and more off-road environments.

The four-motor configuration, dubbed Quad Motor with Dual Motor Active Yaw Control, allows optimum torque to be delivered to all four wheels. Again, this provides plenty of control and power on city streets as well as those off-tarmac days behind the wheel.
The Mi-Tech Concept also envisions an advanced human machine interface that uses augmented reality technology to project information onto the windshield.
The Mi-Pilot driver assistance system not only alerts the driver to a potential collision, but also supports their operation of the steering wheel and brakes. In addition, active safety systems support the driver in avoiding collisions, or can mitigate collision damage.

Also making its debut in Tokyo will be the Super Height K-Wagon Concept. Designed to offer car-like comfort and inspire SUV-like product affection, the Super Height K-Wagon looks like Mitsubishi’s take on the next generation of new Mercedes-Benz- and BMW-style coupes.
Super Height K-Wagon Concept features the roomy interior space as its standard of the class while delivering the performance and functionality expected in this category, the company notes. The SUV-inspired design shows its “Mitsubishi-ness,” which is to say it’s quirky.
Mitsubishi rolled out the Engelberg Tourer in Geneva. The vehicle is named after the Swiss ski resort.
This concept car delivers nimble handling and brisk performance while maximizing living space. It also offers reassurance and safety to all occupants with Mi-Pilot, which is the driver assistance technology for highway driving in the same-lane, forward collision mitigation braking, mis-acceleration mitigation and other advanced active safety systems which earn it SAPO CAR (Safety Support Car) S Wide classification from the Japanese government.
These two vehicles, as well as Engelberg Tourer, which debuted in Geneva earlier this year, will all be on the stand at the show, which opens with media days Oct. 23-24.
