After a four-week long strike and losses approaching $2 billion, General Motors and the United Auto Workers have hammered out a tentative agreement.
The UAW GM National Negotiators and elected to recommend the UAW GM National Council accept the Proposed Tentative Agreement as the agreement represents major gains for UAW workers, UAW vice president Terry Dittes said.
“We can confirm the UAW’s statement regarding a proposed tentative agreement,” said Dan Flores, GM spokesperson. “Additional details will be provided at the appropriate time.”

“The number one priority of the national negotiation team has been to secure a strong and fair contract that our members deserve,” Dittes said, adding “Out of respect for our members, we will refrain from commenting on the details until the UAW GM leaders gather together and receive all details.”
Ultimately, the agreement will not be ratified until UAW-GM membership across the U.S. votes to approve it. The union has a long history of “no contract no work,” suggesting the walkout may not end until it is ratified. The GM council will make the decision on Thursday whether to end the contract prior to the outcome of the ratification vote. The strike will continue through then.
“We are extremely grateful to the thousands of Americans who donated goods and helped our striking workers and their families. As we await the Council’s decision, please know that the outpouring of community and national support will be etched in the memories of all of us at the UAW for years to come,” said Dittes.

“The dignity, grace, and solidarity demonstrated by our members during the last few weeks are prime examples of what this union is all about — supporting one another in the good and bad times and never giving up,” said UAW President Gary Jones.
“Our more than 48,000 members standing their ground have captured the hearts and minds of people across this country. I could not be prouder of our brothers and sisters, our National Negotiators, and the National Council as they continue to fight one day longer to secure the best deal for our members,” said Jones.
On Sept. 15, the UAW GM National Council voted to strike. The UAW GM National Council will meet and review details Thursday, at which time they will vote on whether to recommend it to the full UAW-GM membership for ratification.
Once the UAW National GM Council votes to approve the proposed tentative agreement, the contract language will become a Tentative Agreement and shared with the full membership.

Terry Dittes certainly didn’t need Gary Jones to close the deal . Dittes is the best negotiator the UAW has and by far has the most integrity. . This man (Dittes) has had to deal with Joe Ashton, Tom ashton, jeff binz, and the rest of the corruption within the UAW. He stands tall because he is a true blue union guy. In the past it was Dittes that got the contracts done in Atlantic City while the rest of them were subletting their housing out to others to make money, drinking like fish and doing drugs. Ask Scott Adams where the money from the flower fund went. Hell Tom Ashton had the food contract to feed all the organizers. no bidding no nothing just pain old thievery. It runs in the Aston Blood, sadly Jeff Binz the new region 9 director is so scared he lets Tom Aston do what he wants. most of the time this means he is at his Pizza shops instead of work. That is why Ashton is trying to force Binz to move the regional office from PA to NJ, closer to Ton Ashton’s Pizza shops.
Corruption by the Aston’s at Local 1612 has been going on for years. NO ELECTIONS at local 1612 for years. being a amalgamated then just simply never notified the other plants of elections. Absolutely filthy. One son never worked in the plant he was just made president. Bankruptcy so bad from abusing their funds, they had to get a loan from another Local in western PA so they wouldn’t go to jail. By the way their office in NJ they rent is owned by THE WATCHMAKER himself Mark Cohen.
Not one person ( maybe the guy from Buffalo JL who told everyone that he would be Tom Ashtons assistant) that works in region 9 has any respect for the Ashtons or Binz, it is a complete mess.
Congratulations to the thousands of workers that made the sacrifice necessary to fight for fair wages benefits and good working conditions. You are the kind of people necessary in our society required to force change.for working class people
