UAW strikers, if the new deal with GM is approved, will get an $11,000 signing bonus.
The United Auto Workers released highlights of its tentative agreement with General Motors Co., including an $11,000 signing bonus, and a shorter path of four rather than eight years for new employees to the top wage of $32.32 at the end of the four-year agreement.
The contract also includes a 3 % raise in the second and four year and a 4% lump sum in the first and third year.
Temporary workers with three years of service will become full-time workers on Jan. 6, 2020. and the union won greater say over the employment of temporary workers in various plants, according to the summary. Temporary workers will also get a $4,500 ratification bonus.

The union summary also said that there were no changes in the health-care plan, which costs GM’s blue-collar employees a modest 3% in co-payment and deductible and remains one of the most comprehensive plans in the country.
Profit sharing, which is capped at $12,000 in the current contract, is uncapped in the tentative agreement. In return, GM won the right to close permanently and sell plants in Lordstown, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Warren, Michigan.
The Lordstown, Ohio plant that once built the Chevrolet Cruze will officially close if the new tentative UAW contract is approved.
The scandal-ridden Center for Human Resources (CHR) also will be scheduled closure and underutilized CHR headquarters building on the Detroit River will be sold and the money put back into the training programs, which will continue.
Once the union’s GM councils endorses the contract will be forwarded to UAW members for ratification.

The 48,000 UAW members at GM went on strike Sept. 16, and the walkout is now the longest national strike the company since 1970.
All about pay/bonus and nothing about keeping the jobs in the States? I wonder how that will go over with the rank-and-file? Sounds like GM got what they wanted.
The new $9 billion commitment to products and plants appears to be precisely aimed at keeping jobs in the States, Fred.

Will the full time employees at the three plants GM retains the right to close have seniority rights to replace temporary employees at plants that aren’t being closed? If employees at these plants that are being closed get $11,000 or $4,500 signing bonus will that effect their unemployment rights? Sorry to hear that any of our sisters and brothers are losing their jobs!
