The Ram 1500 diesel is being recalled for a coolant leak that could ultimately lead to a fire.

Fiat Chrysler issued a recall for about 160,000 diesel-powered Ram pickups due to a problem with coolant leaks that could catch fire.

The action for Ram 1500 models from the 2014 through 2019 model years. The vehicles are primarily in the U.S. and Canada.

According to the company’s investigation, microscopic cracks in some exhaust gas recirculation coolers can result in a leak. That leak could ultimately cause the engine can overheat, and that can cause fires in rare instances. FCA says it knows of a small number of engine fires and four minor injuries related to the problem.

Fiat Chrysler will notify customers and tell them when to schedule service and note that owners should watch the coolant level and contact dealers if it is consistently low.

The recall comes not long after the automaker introduced a new version of its hot-selling full-size pickup, the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock now available with Mojave Sand Package that includes sport performance hood, black-painted 20-inch aluminum wheels and popular Mojave Sand exterior color.

Earlier this year, Ram passed Chevy in pickup sales. Part of the reason for that success is the variants the company produces, including this new value edition model.
