GM offers another peek at its soon-to-be-unveiled GMC Hummer EV — it has removable roof panels and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds.
Today was the day we were all supposed to get a good look at General Motors’ groundbreaking new electric vehicle, the GMC Hummer. Instead, we got another glimpse, but that can be chalked up to circumstances beyond the company’s control.
The brand rolled out a new picture and video showing that in addition to going fast, pulling hard and being big, the new Hummer is going to offer a spectacular view through its open air top for both front and rear passengers.
The front passengers, according to the picture, will get an unobstructed view while those in the rear seats seemingly get to view the moon and stars – the picture is a nighttime shot – through what looks like a set of t-tops. GM calls them “removable roof panels.”

The unveiling of General Motors’ new electric truck is going to have to wait a bit longer.
If you are unfamiliar with what t-tops are, dig through your parents’ basement and find their old VHS copy of Smokey and The Bandit and it will show you very clearly. That said, the Bandit likely wouldn’t have been able to keep up with the new Hummer.
The new Hummer puts out 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque and will blaze a trail of 0-to-60 mph in just three seconds, the company revealed just before this year’s Super Bowl — a sporting event that was played live, when those used to be a thing.
In the meantime, the reveal of the new Hummer has been delayed due to the pandemic, a GM spokesperson told TheDetroitBureau.com in an email, and no make-up date has been announced.

In addition to the stunning speed and power numbers, a number of General Motors execs have implied the new EV would deliver at least 300 miles in the EPA test cycle. And, considering what we’ve heard about some of the other electric pickups coming to market, as well as GM’s own recent talk about offering batteries with a longer rang than that, it could be 400 miles.
The new Hummer’s horsepower rating is only surpassed by its torque numbers.
The Hummer offers some impressive performance numbers and the added benefits of removable roof panels are important because it’s got a serious competitor likely coming early next year in the form of Tesla’s Cybertruck.
The California-based EV maker’s uniquely styled pickup truck puts out some impressive performance numbers of its own. During the company’s last earnings call, CEO Elon Musk said the company was searching for a place to build a new plant in the U.S. so it could produce more batteries, which it will need for the Cybertruck. He noted the truck is expected to be available starting next year.
