The snowy Alps will serve as the appropriate backdrop for the return of the allroad Quattro. The strangely punctuated version of the A4 will make its debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
The new model will offer buyers three new, high-tech engines, all with direct injection, turbocharging or even brake regeneration. That includes a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine with variable valve lift that makes 211 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.0-liter TDI common rail diesel has an output of 170 hp and 258 lb.-ft., while the 3.0-liter TDI V-6 is the most powerful diesel in the line-up, with 240 hp and a maximum torque of 389 lb.-ft.
The 2.0 TDI works together with a six-speed stick shift, while the other two engines are teamed with Audi’s seven-speed S-tronic transmission with double clutch. Add the snow-ready quattro full-time All-Wheel-Drive system on the allroad.
The sporty A4-based allroad now has a wider stance than before, with a larger tread front and rear. With longer springs, the body of the allroad Quattro sits somewhat higher off the ground than the normal A4. Standard equipment includes the ORD, or Off Road Detection system, that can actually sense whether the allroad is riding on paved or dirt surfaces, activating the ESP system to guarantee traction under changing and potentially difficult circumstances.
The A4 allroad quattro will be available at dealerships early this summer at a basic price of 37,100 euros. It is equipped with 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels, fog lights, a headlight washer system, roof rails, a convenient luggage-compartment cover, a reversible loadliner, an automatic climate-control system, an electromechanical handbrake, and a sound system with CD player.
Sadly, at least for now, there are no plans to market the A4 allroad quattro in North America.
