Honda recalls one of its newest models, the 2010 Accord Crosstour, due to airbag problems.

Honda is recalling its new 2010 Accord Crosstour model to address potential safety problems with front passenger airbags.

The news is the latest in a series of safety-related actions involving the Japanese company.  Earlier this year, the maker announced it would have to make airbag repairs on more than a million other vehicles, including some of its most popular, such as the Accord sedan and Odyssey minivan, as well as models sold under the luxury Acura brand name.

Then, last month, Honda announced the recall of 428,000 more products, the latest in an ongoing series of service actions dealing with defective ignition switches that can permit a motorist to inadvertently shut a vehicle off and remove the key without shifting to park.

The newest recall, by comparison, is relatively modest in scope, involving just 3,336 of the Crosstour models.  The 2010 model is based on the popular Honda Accord.

The automaker says the latest problem involves the Crosstour’s airbag system, which does not comply with federal safety standards designed to protect a young, unbelted child who might be seated up front.  Honda says it has no reports of incidents or injuries involving the problem.

The maker also notes that in many states it is illegal for a 6-year-old child to be seated up front, and recommends that until the age of 12 children be seated in the rear in an appropriate restraint or booster seat.
