Hyundai has pulled off some intriguing surprises with the super-tuner Ark, including last year’s turbocharged Veloster – which offered a hint of what was to come to the Korean maker’s showrooms just a few months later.
And so, even with the Paris Motor Show still days away, Hyundai is already giving us a sneak peek at what it has in store at the SEMA Show next month. The Koreans are once again teaming up with Ark to deliver a show car version of Hyundai’s latest Genesis Coupe R-Spec.
The production version of the Coupe is no slouch, but Ark takes things one giant step beyond, squeezing a full 395 horsepower and 340 foot-pounds of torque out of the Genesis Coupe R-Spec’s 3.8-liter V-6.
Among the other powertrain changes, Ark installs its own customer intake system, oil cooler and ceramic-coated headers. There’s also a Brian Crower 4.2 Stroker Kit and a number of key transmission updates, including a new carbon plate clutch kit.
The R-Spec brakes are upgraded to a six-piston package, with Ark carbon brake pads and stainless steel brake lines.
Ark also installs its own coil-over suspension kit and Cusco suspension bars, arms and control rods.
There are some notable cosmetic modifications, as well, including a carbon fiber hood, custom rear diffuser and oversized rear fenders, as well as a custom Ark paint job.
“The Genesis Coupe R-Spec is an ideal platform from which to build our SEMA track edition” said Ted Lee, owner of ARK performance, Inc. “The ARK Genesis Coupe R-Spec truly demonstrates the full track-tuning potential of the affordable Genesis Coupe R-Spec model. ARK continues to represent the ultimate in aftermarket performance tuning for Hyundai.”
Could Hyundai have some of the Ark updates in mind for the production Genesis Coupe R-Spec? Based on past history we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few details show up – at least in the maker’s aftermarket parts catalogue.
