If this spy shot of the next generation Chevy Tahoe is any indication, General Motors plans major changes in the design of its 2014 model-year full-size SUV lineup, which includes Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
Though the camouflage covering the vehicle is extensive, hiding much of the new sheet metal, some differences from the current models can be seen clearly. Multiple horizontal bars fill the familiar grille design, with its shield-like outline, centered “Bow Tie” emblem and heavier center bars.
Flanking the grille are new headlight composites with over and under headlights and LED running lights. The front fascia will also feature a flatter face on the bumper grille housing rectangular parking lamps.
Though partially hidden by rotation sensors in the wheel hubs, the wheel design is also new. The new wheels feature a deep dish shape with seven mostly flat and wide spokes. Another new detail is the shape of the exterior mirrors with sharper corners in place of oval outline from the previous model.
Look closely and you see major changes in the plan of the doors. Gone are the curved upper frames that now extend up into roof. The new design has the top of the doors ending well short of the rooftop and not blending into the roof surfaces, just like the recently introduced 2014 Silverado.

Major differences will also appear in the Tahoe’s drivetrain and body materials. According to industry insider scuttlebutt, the Tahoe will provide much better fuel economy than today’s 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, thanks to smaller, possibly turbocharged, engines and the use of lightweight materials, such as aluminum, in the vehicle’s body structure.

The current iteration of the SUVs haven’t changed much since 2007, but the new models are expected to hit the streets early in 2014.
