Bisimoto delivers 1,000 horsepower out of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec.

For those who’re sad to see the leaves begin to turn colors and the day get shorter there is a reason to feel excited about the arrival of autumn: the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas. And if Hyundai’s teaser release is any indication, this could be a good year at the annual aftermarket extravaganza.

Consider, if you will, the idea of stuffing a 1,000-pony powertrain package under the hood of a Hyundai Genesis Coupe.  That’s one of the big announcements the Korean carmaker has in store for the upcoming Specialty Equipment Marketers Association event at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The result of a partnership with Bisimoto Engineering, the package starts out with a factory-stock 3.8-liter V-6 from the Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec edition.  Of course, there’s a lot more going on, including twin turbochargers, to transform this into what Hyundai calls “a no-holds-barred racer.”

Hyundai has been an active participant at SEMA in recent years.

“The key to producing reliable, high-horsepower engines goes well beyond the design, engineering and fabrication of performance parts. The core powerplant must be strong enough to withstand advanced modifications. The Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter Lambda engine is a thoroughly robust powerplant, and Bisimoto Engineering is excited to develop it to its full potential for the rigors of competitive motorsport,” said Bisi Ezerioha, owner of Bisimoto Engineering.

The twin Bisimoto/Turbonetic turbos are perhaps the biggest change the development team is making to the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V06, but other updates include forged pistons, modified sleeves, a Supertech valvetrain, new camshafts and steel connecting roads, and even a high-flow fuel pump.

To complement all the changes under the hood, the Hyundai Bisimoto Genesis Coupe gets a customized Electric Blue paint job, unique graphics, an ARK hood and carbon fiber decklid, as well as a unique stainless steel exhaust.

The chassis is hunkered down with a progressive coilover suspension and anti-roll bars, while modified axles and driveshafts are added to take that brute power. Special Toyo Tires and Incurve 20 x 9.5 and 20 x 11 aluminum wheels ensure all that power gets to the pavement.

And to keep the driver safe and well positioned, there’s a Bisimoto roll cage and Buddy Club racing seats and harness.

We’re not expecting to see the Bisimoto Genesis Coupe added to the Hyundai line-up anytime soon, but the maker has been a regular at SEMA in recent years, concepts like this designed to show what can be done to stock Hyundai products with a little cash and creativity – and the right aftermarket partners.
