Three workers were injured yesterday at Tesla's plant in Freemont, Calif.

Tesla’s run of bad news continued yesterday when three workers were hospitalized after being injured by hot metal at the company’s Freemont, Calif., plant.

“There was a failure in a low pressure aluminum casting press. Three employees were injured by hot metal from that press. We are making sure that they receive the best possible care,” the company said in a statement.

The Freemont fire department said there was no fire and that it was treating the incident as an industrial accident. The workers were taken to a hospital, but their condition at this time is unknown.

Also unknown is if the incident will impact production. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made no formal comment and has not made any mention of the incident on Twitter, where he often comments on issues impacting the electric-vehicle maker.

Tesla shares, which had been trading at about $140 during the day, dropped to a low of $136.34 before bouncing back. Tesla closed at $138.70, up 90 cents or 0.65% for the day.

The event is another in a string of events that have taken a bit of the shine off the company. Recently three Model S sedans have caught fire after their battery packs were damaged by road debris or, in one case, by severe accidents. No one was injured in any of the events and in each case, the owners of the vehicles made public statements lauding the safety of their vehicles and saying they want to buy another one.
