The new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the fastest street-legal street-legal Viper track car ever.

Viper sales have jumped 40% since the car was re-positioned with a price cut last fall, Dodge brand president Tim Kuniskis told reporters during a tour of the Fiat Chrysler plant that builds the modern muscle car in Detroit.

In addition to a new price, the maker introduced a new website and viral advertising campaign that have sparked fresh interest in the Viper, said Kuniskis, adding a new configurator that allows visitors to build their own, personalized Viper has attracted more than 4,000 visitors since it went live about a month ago.

Not all of the visitors are ever going to buy a Viper, Kuniskis said, but the visits help create a halo around the Viper and Dodge brand. The website, along with the new video, Viper: DNA of a Supercar, also have helped put the spotlight back on Viper, which has been overshadowed lately by introduction of the 707-horsepower Hellcat.

Kuniskis and the Viper team are hoping to make the spotlight a little brighter. They took the wraps off the latest version of the Viper, the 2016 Viper ACR, which he described as a pure track car certified for public roads.

A new ACR Extreme Aero Package delivers nearly 1-ton of peak downforce at top speed through massive adjustable dual-element carbon fiber rear wing.

“The Viper has always been more of a street legal race car than a track capable streetcar and the new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the fastest street-legal street-legal Viper track car ever,” Kuniskis said.

Engineered to wring every last hundredth of a second out of road course lap times, it combines the lasts aerodynamic, braking and tire technology, offering a recipe to carry on the car’s reputation on racetracks around the world.

At the heart of the 2016 Viper ACR is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter V-10 overhead-valve engine, rated at 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world. FCA US hasn’t announced pricing the 2016 Viper ACR but it should be revealed soon, Kuniskis said.

The new Viper comes equipped with ample stopping performance with brake fade resistance through ACR-exclusive Carbon Ceramic Matrix 15-inch two-piece rotors and six-piston front calipers from Brembo.

The heart of the 2016 Viper ACR is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter V-10 overhead-valve engine, rated at 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque.

The unique race-tuned suspension features 10-setting, double-adjustable, coil-over Bilstein racing shocks and unique race alignment delivering up to 3 inches of suspension height adjustment for fine tuning corner weight.

The beast uses the latest racing tire compound technology with massive Kumho Ecsta V720 high-performance tires, designed specifically for the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. Outfitted with the tires, the car delivers laps times that are 1.5 seconds faster than racing-only tires.

Combination of suspension, aero treatment and ACR-specific tires delivers sustainable 1.5 g cornering during high-speed turns. On the inside, lightweight carpet, minimal three-speaker audio, manual seats and Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes offset added performance elements while maintaining optimal 50/50 weight distribution.

“The Viper has never been a high-volume car,” Kuniskis said, but we do “build dreams.”
